Corbalis Water Treatment Plant Expansion – Stage 2

OVERVIEW

The Corbalis Water Treatment Plant expansion project consisted of the Stage 2 Expansion of the current water treatment plant. The Stage 2 Expansion included of the construction of a new water quality laboratory, visitor education center, a vehicular entrance to the site, a reinforced concrete Ozone contactor, a structural enclosure for a 300-foot walkway, along with a liquid oxygen storage facility with two 13,000 gallon tanks.

FACTS

Specialized Engineering was responsible for monitoring Construction Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) along with performing Special Inspections and Construction Materials Testing and Inspections during the Stage 2 Development. Testing and Inspection Services provided by Specialized Engineering included the following:

  • Structural Backfill/Fill
  • Fireproofing
  • Reinforcing Steel
  • Structural Steel
  • Pre-Cast Concrete
  • Cast-In-Place Concrete
  • Built-up Asphalt Roofing
  • Ornamental Handrails and Railings

As Special Inspection Engineer of Record (SIER), Specialized Engineering assured project compliance with procedural requirements set forth in the Fairfax County Special Inspection Program Manual, which included the following actions:

  • FCCSS Preconstruction Meeting Attendance
  • Certification of Special Inspections
  • Verification of Approved Documents
  • Submission of Special Inspection Reports
